\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMunich, July 2023\n\nThe young Munich company Smarter Habitat has won the DGNB Sustainability Challenge 2023 in the \u201cInnovation\u201d category with its building \"ecoHAB\" panel. The search was for \u201creal innovations that question what already exists, initiate new things and bring about change\u201d. The 14-member jury found these properties in the new corn-based lightweight panel.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The carbon footprint of buildings is increasingly regulated as part of the EU Green Deal. Low-CO\u2082 building products are therefore experiencing a noticeable upswing in the construction and real estate industries. A REAL ALTERNATIVE TO CO2-INTENSIVE BUILDING MATERIALS<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAfter intensive research and development, a \"ecoHAB\" \u201cgreen\u201d lightweight panel was created that is made from plant materials and agricultural waste. The sandwich panels consist of two basic components: natural fiber laminates as a top layer and a core material made from popped corn granules. Only the starch of the industrial corn is used. The proteins and oils contained in the grain are still available as animal food, for example in the form of corn protein meal.\n\nDepending on the application, the panels can be manufactured in a wide range of dimensions and thicknesses. Natural fiber laminates can be made from hemp, flax, sisal or other long-fiber agricultural products. They are processed into a fleece felt and pressed with a resin under high pressure.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWith the \"ecoHAB\" panel, Smarter Habitat would like to offer an alternative to plasterboard, which is used in large quantities in drywall construction. The patented panels have very good technical properties. They can be manufactured in different bulk densities, allowing control of technical properties such as strength or sound insulation. The fire protection properties achieved by a bio-based flame retardant are particularly noteworthy. The plates can withstand temperatures of 850 degrees for 60 minutes. In addition to drywall walls, the panels are also suitable as fillings for building elements.\n\nThe panels from Smarter Habitat therefore offer several advantages: They are both technically and economically competitive and can be produced in large quantities. They are also a building block of a CO\u2082-optimized construction and real estate industry.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
